Thousands of catalan amateur radio operators are calling on the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) — the main organization that manages global radio communication awards — to officially recognize Catalonia as a DXCC entity on their list, known as The ARRL DXCC List.
The ARRL DXCC list is an international classification used by radio amateurs around the world. It defines which territories count as “countries” for radio communication purposes — even if they are not official United Nations members.
The problem? Catalonia is not on that list, even though many other territories with similar — or even less — political and geographic distinction are.
For amateur radio operators, making contact with as many different countries around the world as possible is a key part of the activity. Being listed as a DXCC entity brings visibility, recognition, and fair treatment to radio operators in that area. It’s not about politics, it’s about acknowledging reality and maintaining consistency.
Many places that are not official and independent countries are recognized as DXCC entities, such as:
Catalonia has:
We don’t know why. The American Radio Relay League despises thousands of catalan radio amateurs who have signed the petition to include Catalonia in the ARRL DXCC list. The ARRL is deaf and dumb. It is inadmissible that it does not respond to the request of thousands of catalan radio amateurs.
Because the ARRL violates this right of all catalan radio amateurs, even Catalonia has the perfect conditions to become a DXCC entity today.
Dear President of the American Radio League, learn more about Catalonia in this video.
As of today, 2,227 people have signed the petition asking the ARRL to add Catalonia to the ARRL DXCC list. If you believe in fairness and recognition, please sign the petition and help spread the word.
