Avui se celebra el Dia Mundial del Radioaficionat, una afició minoritària i força desconeguda que compta amb més de tres milions de radioaficionats a tot el món, dels quals, cinc mil són de Catalunya i aprofiten aquesta diada per a recollir més signatures per a la campanya “Catalonia must be added in the DXCC countries list by the ARRL”. (Demanem que l’ARRL inclogui Catalunya a la lista de països del DXCC. Signa la petició)

Today, 2,025 signatures have been reached from the radio amateurs asking the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) to add Catalonia in the DXCC countries list. To achieve the goal, we must continue to increase the number of requests. Those who haven’t signed can do it here: Sign the petition.

The main purpose of amateur radio is, among others, to contact every country in the world through the radio, establishing a competition among all, get diplomas, trophies and included in a global ranking of worked countries. When we talk about countries, we do not mean the list of the 193 states members of United Nations, is a list created by radio amateur matches and no official statements. These “radio-countries” are called DXCC entities.

The DXCC entities are part of a list drawn up by the DX Century Club and belongs to the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). The ARRL is the national association for amateur radio in the United States and is the one who drafted the specifications of this diploma. In the present case, the ARRL decided at the time, in 1945, to create a broader list of countries to make the competition more attractive and interesting. It is for this reason that radio amateurs are governed by a list of 340 countries (DXCC entities) and not the 193 official states.

The criteria for admitting a country in the DXCC list are geographical but also political and ideological, although many amateurs always say that this group does not enter into political issues, arguing that it is not legal, which is totally false. In general, the islands are always different countries but belonging to the same state. An example: Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla and Canary Islands are three different countries but all belong to Spain. Scotland, England, Wales, Man, Northern Ireland and Jersey are six different countries but all belong to the United Kingdom.

Therefore, if Scotland is a DXCC entity, why not Catalonia? Seeing the example of Scotland, Catalonia has the perfect conditions, according to the rules of the ARRL, to become a DXCC entity today. We must continue demanding to the ARRL, including Catalonia in the DXCC countries list. The American Radio Relay League must add Catalonia to the DXCC countries list. Catalonia is a nation of Europe with more of 1,000 years of history.

We request the ARRL board directors, Mr. Richard A. Roderick (K5UR), President of the American Radio Relay League, grant DXCC country status to Catalonia.

We inform you that we have opened a campaign on change.org where more than two thousand Catalan radio amateurs have signed a petition requesting that Catalonia be recognized as a DXCC country.

Mr. Richard A. Roderick, the question is: Are you going to despise and ignore the majority (51%) of catalan radio amateurs?

Examples of some territories included in the DXCC countries list:

• Scotland (UK) is a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• Balearic Islands (Spain) is a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• Canary Islands (Spain) is a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• England (UK) is a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• Wales (UK) is a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• Man (UK) is a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• Northern Ireland (UK) is a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• Kaliningrad is a province of Russia and a DXCC country but is not an official state.
• Sovereign Military Order of Malta is a NGO with a call sign not authorized by the ITU and is a DXCC country.

Many other territories of the world are included in the DXCC countries list, but are not official states.

And Catalonia? Why Catalonia is not a DXCC country? Therefore, if all these territories are DXCC countries, why not Catalonia? Seeing these examples, Catalonia (with own prefixes, EA3, EB3, EC3, ED3, EE3, EF3, EG3, EH3, AM3, AN3 & AO3) has the perfect conditions to become a DXCC country today.

The American Radio Relay League despises thousands of catalan radio amateurs who have signed the petition to include Catalonia in the DXCC countries list. The ARRL must recognize Catalonia as a DXCC country. It is inadmissible that it does not respond to the request of thousands of catalan radio amateurs.

Dear President of the ARRL, Catalonia must be added in the DXCC countries list. Today? Why not? Where is the problem?

El Matagalls és una muntanya de 1.698 metres del massís del Montseny que es troba entre els municipis del Brull i Viladrau a Osona, i el del Montseny al Vallès Oriental.

Al cim s’hi pot trobar un vèrtex geodèsic (referència 294106001), juntament amb una creu de dimensions considerables, dedicada a Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer. En aquesta creu, entre altres plaques, n’hi ha una en record del també mossèn Jaume Oliveras i Brossa, excursionista, en memòria de qui es creà la Travessa Matagalls-Montserrat. Aquesta cursa de resistència, en un primer moment, sortia des d’aquest punt, però d’uns anys cap aquí comença primer al Coll Formic i actualment al nucli del Brull. Font: Viquipèdia.

Som usuaris de la xarxa guifi.net des de l’abril de 2007. En aquella època no hi havia fibra òptica i l’ADSL funcionava molt malament. A causa de la distància amb la central telefònica només teníem 0,5 MB de velocitat.

Durant tots aquests anys la xarxa guifi, a la nostra zona, ha funcionat sempre molt bé, amb poques interrupcions i amb una velocitat acceptable. Es podia connectar amb molts “proxis” que donaven la connexió a internet, Folgueroles, Sant Julià de Vilatorta, Santa Eugènia de Berga, Vic, Calldetenes, Gurb, El Serrat, Roda de Ter i molts més.

Des de fa anys, pràcticament només es pot connectar amb dos servidors intermediaris (Santa Eugènia de Berga i l’Esperança) i últimament ja només en funciona un, el de l’Esperança de Gurb que, a més a més, té interrupcions constants malgrat que la connexió al nostre node és molt bona i amb un senyal molt fort.

El fòrum de guifi.net està totalment abandonat i ja no es respon cap pregunta de la zona d’Osona.

Vivim en una zona a la qual no arriba la fibra òptica de cap operador (tret de Goufone que demana una quantitat de 1.500 € aproximadament per fer-la arribar) i l’ADSL, com ja hem dit abans, no és viable a causa de la baixíssima velocitat, ni tampoc altres solucions via satèl·lit, caríssimes i de poca velocitat. Sorprèn, però, que aquesta zona no és ni aïllada, ni rural, és urbana, però ens tracten com a ciutadans de segona categoria al voler-nos cobrar per fer arribar la fibra, cosa que no fan amb els usuaris ubicats uns pocs metres més enllà.

Hi ha operadors com Goufone-Vera que ofereix connexió per radioenllaç de 20 MB, però el cost és exactament el mateix que el d’una fibra òptica de 1.000 MB, és a dir, 39,95 €, i això no és just, és desorbitat.

Després de més de setze anys d’utilitzar guifi.net (amb les seves limitacions) haurem d’abandonar aquesta xarxa per força sense tenir cap alternativa, només podríem fer servir el mòbil per a connectar-lo a l’ordinador, però és una solució no gaire bona, ja que es necessita tenir contractada una tarifa amb una gran quantitat de dades, 100 GB o més, i tampoc és viable sacrificar el mòbil per una connexió constant.
